Short Bio

American jazz musician, recording artist, composer, bandleader, teacher, and the list goes on, has been playing guitar since age thirteen. Robinett comes from an impressive musical bloodline, his father being a first cousin of the legendary jazz bassist Charles Mingus. Henry’s early musical influences were Jimi Hendrix and Charles Mingus, the latter with whom Henry lived in New York City for a short time. Henry has often reflected on what a profound impact the bassist has had on his life. He also remembers associations with saxophone great Sonny Rollins and rock legend Joni Mitchell. He has played and toured over the globe. Henry now resides in Sacramento. His latest albums are “I Have Known Mountains”, the title inspired by the Langston Hughes poem, “I’ve Known Rivers,” and the critically acclaimed serious of Jazz Standards Vol 1 and 2. To date he’s released 7 albums with three more in the can already.  He is also a founding member of The Capital Jazz Project and has played with great musicians such as Muhal Richard Abrams, George Lewis, Chico Freeman, Frank Strozier, Gary Bartz, Randy Brecker, Dave Liebman, Bobby Hutcherson, Benny Green, Geoffrey Keezer,  and many others. He taught in Vienna, Austria at the American Institute of Music and was on the faculty of the University of the Pacific and Cosumnes River College.  He has been teaching music in prison for almost 30 years.
